Doug Yuill was presented with the QDJM at the RCL Branch 14 Annual Veterans’ Dinner in the Grandview Kinsmens Community Hall by Robt Sopuck, the MP for this Riding. About 200 people were in attendance at the Dinner which was followed by a performance of a one hour play entitled “Jake’s Gift” by Julia Mackey.. I was recognized for my time in uniform, some 44 years in total, as well as for work done in support of the Grandview Museum and in the formation of the Grandview Foundation.

“Jake’s Gift” is a very moving play based on the return to Normandy on the 60th Anniversary of the Landings and of the encounter between Jake, a veteran of the landing who lost a brother in Normandy and a 10 year old French girl who tends his brother’s grave. The play is based on two brothers, the Hebners, from Grandview, who died, one during the landings and the other subsequently in Belgium. It is advertised on the web under the title and is strongly recommended.
